Mr. Sheffield has more than 30 years of experience in environmental matters.  His professional career includes state and local government, environmental consulting, and private law practice.  Mr. Sheffield's law practice encompasses federal and state environmental law and regulation, air quality and water quality permitting, hazardous substances remediation, compliance counseling, agricultural operations, and underground storage tank regulation and site cleanup.  He also handles legislative initiatives and rulemaking and judicial and administrative litigation and appeals, and serves as counsel to regional water and sewer authorities.  Mr. Sheffield is the former mayor of Hillsborough, North Carolina (1983-1987), and a former chair of the Environmental Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.  He is included in The Best Lawyers in America, is recognized in "Legal Elite," a list of the best attorneys in the state by Business North Carolina, and has been rated by his peers as being "preeminent" in his fields of law.
