Ward and Smith Attorneys to Participate in the 2023 NCBA Litigation Section Program

Ellis Boyle and Chris Edwards

Sharpen your litigation skills at the 2023 NCBA Litigation Section Program, featuring Ward and Smith attorneys Ellis Boyle and Chris Edwards.

The event "Threading the Needle" is a one-day gathering that delves into a wide range of topics relevant to litigators.

Ellis will lead a panel discussion featuring North Carolina judges from three different courts who will provide unique perspectives on professionalism in legal practice and compliance with local rules. The esteemed panel of judges includes:

  • Judge W. Carleton Metcalf, U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, Asheville
  • Chief Business Court Judge Louis A. Bledsoe III, North Carolina Business Court, Charlotte
  • Judge Vince M. Rozier Jr., Wake County Superior Court, Raleigh

Additionally, as a Board Certified Specialist in Appellate Practice by the North Carolina State Bar, Chris will be presenting "Appellate Considerations for Litigators." This presentation aims to provide valuable insights and practical tips for trial court litigators who may face the possibility of an appeal. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn crucial aspects of appellate considerations, including issue preservation, appealability determination, timing for filing a notice of appeal, and enforcement or stay of orders during the appeal process.

Other topics covered during the program will include deposing exporting witnesses, how to prepare for and defend Rule 30(b)(6) Depositions, and ethical obligation and the use of artificial intelligence.

Hayley Wells from Ward and Smith and Audrey Z. Snyder from Ward Black Law, alongside Kelly Wilburn from Cape Fear Family Law have constructed an incredible program taking place on Thursday, November 30, that allows for both in-person and virtual attendance options.
