Biography

Ms. Harris is the Firm's Director of Government and Media Relations.  She is a member of the Government Relations Practice Group.  Ms. Harris served as Governor Jim Hunt's Deputy Chief of Staff and previously as his Press Secretary.  Her career includes nearly 12 years of law firm lobbying experience, 14 years of wide-ranging experience in state government, and 6 years as a newspaper reporter.  Ms. Harris's government relations experience includes key advisory roles in several state agencies, including the governor's office, the North Carolina State Commerce Department, the North Carolina State Transportation Department, and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.  As Governor Hunt's Deputy Chief of Staff, she oversaw the Governor's Policy Office helping shape the governor's legislative agenda.  Ms. Harris also oversaw the intergovernmental relations, education, and press offices.  While with the Commerce Department, Ms. Harris was director of public affairs and legislative liaison, and helped coordinate successful passage of the state's then largest incentives program.  As special assistant and key advisor to the Transportation Secretary, she helped design the legislative agenda and led the development and implementation of major reforms in the Department of Transportation as directed by Governor Hunt.  Her experience as a reporter and her public relations work in state government benefit the Firm's clients in dealing with a variety of communications issues, including responding to reporters, setting up media events, and providing consultation on community relations and crisis management.  Ms. Harris serves on the board of directors for the Triangle Red Cross.  She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
