Coaster Showdown: The Non-Compete Dilemma
January 30, 2026
The annual recognition honors young professionals across the Triangle region who have distinguished themselves through their career achievements and community involvement.
As part of the honor, each recipient was featured in an individual profile published by the Triangle Business Journal, offering readers a closer look at their careers and personal lives. Here’s a glimpse at Devon’s.
What are you responsible for at your business?
I wear two hats at the firm. On the practice side, I represent companies and individuals in complex employment disputes. As co-managing director, I ensure we create an organization that stands firmly behind our values in delivering exceptional client service, fosters a culture where talented people want to build their careers, and maintains the financial strength needed for long-term success.
What do you know now that you wished you knew at the start of your career?
I wish I had known that while the uncertainty inherent in practicing law never disappears, learning how to successfully navigate it becomes second nature. Experience breeds confidence in your ability to lead clients through even the most complex and uncertain terrain, and navigating those challenges for clients is what makes our work rewarding.
What is your secret talent?
I can turn anything into a (friendly) competition. And, I can quote nearly every episode of “Friends.”
