Succession Planning—Bet the Farm on It

Ward and Smith attorneys Hunter Morris and Peter von Stein will speak at the Inaugural Landowner Summit on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Nash County Agriculture Center, where they will provide legal guidance on farm and land succession planning.
Designed to support landowners navigating long-term planning and preservation decisions, the Landowner Summit will bring together representatives from state and local agencies, conservation organizations, and professional advisors for a full day of education and discussion. Hunter and Peter will present the legal perspective on farm succession planning, addressing strategies for transferring land and operations while balancing family goals, tax considerations, and regulatory requirements.
Additional summit topics will include farmland preservation programs, present-use value taxation, updates to local development ordinances, and working lands conservation initiatives.
The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with registration opening at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to attend.
