Ward and Smith is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Long to the Wake County Board of Elections.
The five-member board oversees the administration of elections in Wake County and plays a key role in maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
The Board of Elections operates under a bipartisan structure, with two Democrats, two Republicans, and a Chair appointed by the State Board of Elections every two years.
A respected tax attorney in Ward and Smith’s Raleigh office, Steve leads the firm’s Tax and Employee Benefits practice, advising employers in various sectors regarding retirement plans, executive compensation, and stock incentive arrangements. He also counsels nonprofits on 403(b) and 457 retirement plans, IRS and state compliance for executive compensation, fundraising, and lobbying, and assists with retirement and estate planning for business owners and other individuals.
The Wake County Board of Elections is responsible for overseeing voter registration, candidate filings, early voting, and certifications of both local and national election results. Steve's depth of experience in administrative, regulatory, and nonprofit sectors equips him well for these duties.
His appointment underscores a shared commitment across local leadership to secure efficient, impartial election administration. Steve's term commenced earlier this month and will run until July 2027, in alignment with the State's election board appointment schedule.
