Avery Locklear Named Treasurer of UNC Pembroke Board of Visitors

Avery Locklear, a labor and employment attorney in Ward and Smith’s Wilmington office, has been appointed Treasurer of the UNC Pembroke Board of Visitors. Her appointment was confirmed following a full vote by the Board during its May 31st meeting. She will serve a two-year term.

Avery has been an active member of the Board of Visitors since November 2024. In that time, she’s played a hands-on role in helping the university strengthen connections with alumni, businesses, and policymakers while offering valuable input on key university initiatives.

Her appointment as treasurer reflects not only her leadership but also her commitment to service and education, values that are deeply embedded in UNC Pembroke’s mission to empower students and the broader community.
