Ward and Smith is pleased to announce that attorney Emily Massey has been named Co‑Chair of the firm’s Raleigh Geographic Team.
She succeeds government relations attorney Whitney Campbell Christensen and will serve alongside fellow Co‑Chair Tyler Russell, continuing the firm’s commitment to strong leadership and strategic growth in the Triangle region.
In her new role, Emily will help lead the firm’s business development initiatives and support its civic and community engagement across the Triangle. She will also support the firm's efforts to recruit and retain top legal talent.
“I’m honored to step into this role and build on the strong foundation Whitney helped lay,” said Emily. “The Raleigh office has seen tremendous growth and is filled with smart, dedicated professionals, thanks to our firm's strong leadership and vision. I’m eager to work with Tyler and the rest of our team to keep that momentum going.”
A North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in Employment Law, Emily advises businesses and employers on a broad range of workplace matters, including compliance, training, internal investigations, and litigation. She is widely regarded for her practical guidance, steady approach under pressure, and ability to craft thoughtful, effective solutions.
“Emily is a natural fit for this role,” added Tyler Russell, who also co‑chairs the firm’s Hemp and Cannabis Practice Group. “She’s respected by colleagues and clients alike and brings valuable perspective and insight to everything she does. I’m excited to work alongside her as we continue to grow our office and strengthen our community ties.”
Emily will continue her full-time legal practice in addition to her geographic team responsibilities.
