Peter Ledford Joins NCBA Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Law Section Council

Ward and Smith attorney Peter Ledford has joined the North Carolina Bar Association’s Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Law Section Council for a three-year term.

The Council supports the Section’s work connecting attorneys who practice in environmental, energy, and natural resources law. Its members help guide programming, educational opportunities, and discussions of legal and policy issues affecting North Carolina. Peter’s service on the Council reflects his commitment to the legal issues facing businesses, communities, property owners, and public entities across the state.

Based in Ward and Smith’s Raleigh office, Peter is a North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in Utilities Law. He represents clients in environmental permitting and regulatory compliance matters, as well as in electric and natural gas rate cases, resource planning dockets, and other regulatory matters before the North Carolina Utilities Commission. Before entering private practice, Ledford served as Deputy Secretary for Policy at the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and as Clean Energy Director in the Office of Governor Roy Cooper. He also spent nearly eight years with the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association, serving as General Counsel and Director of Policy, and earlier worked on legislative staff at the North Carolina General Assembly.

The NCBA Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Law Section brings together lawyers from private practice, government, nonprofit organizations, and industry. The Section provides resources and continuing legal education on subjects including environmental regulation, land use, water, energy, permitting, and related matters.
