Avery Locklear and Chris Edwards

Ward and Smith is proud to announce that Avery Locklear and Chris Edwards have been elected to leadership positions within the New Hanover County Bar Association (NHCBA).

Avery was elected to serve on the Board, and Chris, who joined the board in 2024, was elected to serve as Treasurer. Both were chosen by their peers at the Association’s meeting on October 9, with their one-year terms beginning immediately.

Their elections reflect the respect and trust they’ve earned among their colleagues in the local legal community. Through their new roles, Avery and Chris will contribute to the NHCBA’s mission of advancing justice, strengthening professional fellowship, and supporting continued education for attorneys across New Hanover County.

Avery Locklear practices in Ward and Smith’s Wilmington office, where she focuses her work on labor and employment law. Chris Edwards is a North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in Appellate Practice, who represents businesses and individuals in civil and criminal appeals before state and federal appellate courts. Both bring leadership, insight, and a strong commitment to service, which values that align closely with the NHCBA’s purpose.
