Hope, Housing, and Community: Ward and Smith Supports the Golden Hammer Breakfast

On Friday, February 13, 2026, community leaders, advocates, and supporters will gather at Hotel Ballast in downtown Wilmington for Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity’s annual Golden Hammer Breakfast.

From 8:00 to 9:45 a.m., the event will shine a spotlight on one of the region’s most pressing needs: safe, affordable housing—and the hope that comes with it.

Hosted by Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, the Golden Hammer Breakfast highlights the organization’s ongoing work to expand access to safe, affordable housing across the Cape Fear region. Attendees will hear how Habitat is responding to rising housing costs, construction challenges, and funding gaps while continuing to build homes and strengthen neighborhoods.

This year’s breakfast will feature keynote speaker Liz Carbone, a housing consultant and member of the National Alliance to End Homelessness. Her perspective will help frame the local housing conversation within broader national trends, offering insight into both the challenges communities face and the solutions that can move them forward.
