Meet 2021 Summer Associate Zach Marks

Forest Road Under Sunset Sunbeams

Five law school students are working alongside Ward and Smith attorneys in our five offices as part of the firm's 2021 Summer Associate Program.

While they're honing their real-world legal skills, we're getting to know them better in our "Meet the Summer Associate" series.

I would be a professional athlete (probably soccer, but maybe tennis).

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

That I do not like any cheese unless it comes in powder form.

Why do you want to be an attorney?

I think it provides me with a great opportunity to do really sophisticated work, which really excites me. More importantly, it gives me the opportunity to help individuals in the community, which is extremely important to me.

What sparked your interest in law?

Talking to lawyers in high school and college and hearing how interesting and diverse their practices were.

What is the hardest part of law school?

Remote learning with two cats. I love them, but they always meow during class.

What are you most excited to learn during your time here at Ward and Smith?

I am excited to learn more about the practice of Trusts and Estates and see the work that goes into preparing for the many stages of litigation.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Ideally, living in Wilmington with a dog and enjoying my career as a young attorney.

What's the best advice someone has given you?

Find the balance. (Thank you, Dad!)

Describe yourself in three words.

Diligent, witty, and dependable.

If you were famous, what would you be famous for?
