Angela Doughty Appointed NCBA's IP Law Section Chair

Intellectual property attorney Angela Doughty is taking on a new role starting July 1.

The Board Certified Specialist in Trademark Law and Certified Information Privacy Professional was recently appointed as Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association's ("NCBA") Intellectual Property Law Section. Doughty was selected by the IP Section's members and appointed by the President of the NCBA. Her term will run for one year.

Prior to her role as Chair, Doughty served on the IP Section Executive Committee in other officer positions, including Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-Chair. She has also served in several Committee Chair positions for the IP Section over the years.

Doughty leads Ward and Smith's IP practice group where she routinely counsels and assists clients with identifying, protecting, enforcing, and managing their IP rights, both nationally and internationally.

Doughty's dedication to her clients was recently recognized by several world-renown publications. In 2018, she was named a "Global IP Star" by Managing Intellectual Property Magazine and was listed in the World Trademark Review 1000.  She has also been honored by North Carolina Super Lawyers as a "Rising Star" and selected by Business North Carolina as a "Legal Elite" on multiple occasions.

The IP Law Section of the NCBA focuses on examining copyright, patent, trade secret, and trademark law issues. It sponsors several events surrounding issues related to intellectual property in order to engage its members in relevant news.
