Introducing Anna Washa

Anna Washa

School: University of North Carolina School of Law – 2L

Would you like to share something about your family?

I am from a family of public servants! My mom is a career District Attorney and my dad retired in 2022 after 43 years in law enforcement. My husband is an AV-8B Harrier Pilot in the Marine Corps, and four of his five siblings served in the U.S. military.

What do you like to do in your downtime when you're not studying?

My husband and I are fiercely loyal when it comes to our sports teams - the Denver Broncos, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and of course, the Carolina Tar Heels. In the summer, we love hosting "land-locked" friends and family for long weekends on the Crystal Coast.

What is your favorite movie?

Forrest Gump

What is your favorite book?

To Kill a Mockingbird

Where is your favorite vacation spot?

Amalfi Coast, Italy

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be?

Anywhere that has a beach and great food.

If you knew you could try anything and not fail, what dream would you pursue?

A career in NFL broadcasting

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

My competitiveness doesn't match my athleticism (the latter is lacking).

What sparked your interest in law?

I watched my parents work tirelessly to advocate for members of our community, I wanted to be in a position where one day I could do the same.

What is the hardest part of law school?

I worked in the corporate world for five years before law school. The hardest part for me was transitioning back to a never ending to-do list and losing my Sunday afternoons to studying.

What are you most excited to learn during your time here at Ward and Smith?

I am looking forward to learning from the talented attorneys at Ward and Smith and gaining insight into the various practice areas.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself practicing in eastern North Carolina, enjoying the Crystal Coast with my husband, and starting a family (the first member will be joining us next spring - a golden retriever puppy!).

What's the best advice someone has given you?

Nothing will work unless you do.

Describe yourself in three words.

Kind, loyal, driven

If you were famous, what would you be famous for?

Being able to find common ground with anyone.

Ward and Smith Summer Associate Program runs through June 23.
